Hello it’s Friday once again, and now here’s the last and 3rd recipe of the 3-part series of Taiwan Food quick-air fried recipe from Travel Unnies’ Kitchen !
From our previous food trip in Taiwan , I have learned that there are lots of types of Dumplings. It can be made from different fillings such as ground pork or beef, shrimp or chicken, plain veggies, leeks, lamb and more. It maybe made in different sizes and shapes too!

Basically dumplings are dough made of bread flour or potato flour or made from any variety of starch sources, which can be filled with meat, fish, cheese, vegetables or to some , they even use fruits or sweets as filling. No wonder , dumplings is the most popular among Asian cuisine particularly in the Far East Asian countries like Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan. Here are some of the types of dumplings based from their country of origin and preparation.
- Xiao Long Bao Dumplings – originally from Shanghai , China. They are cute like and perfectly shaped dumplings . It is primarily soup-filled pork made dumplings.
- Wonton Dumplings – this type of dumpling is typically found in soup base dishes. Also you will usually see it served in deep fried with chili oil or in clear broth or soups. Its filling is basically made of ground pork and shrimp.
- Mandu Dumplings– originally from Korea which is served in different ways such as steamed, boiled, deep-fried or pan-fried. Its filling can be made of ground pork or beef and best served with kimchi, of course!
- Gyoza Dumplings – originally from Japan. It is usually served pan-fried with soy sauce as its dipping sauce. Its filling is made of pork or seafood.
And so, just like what I said before, for my third Taiwan food favorite, I am sharing with you how I easily prepared my Taiwan dumplings using an Air fryer and with my own version of dipping sauce.
Here are the things you need :
- Store-bought frozen dumplings
- Oil with sprayer or brush
- Baking paper or parchment paper
- Air fryer
For the Dipping Sauce
- 1 small piece of ginger
- 2 tablespoon of dumpling vinegar or gyoza soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- a dash of powdered pepper
- a pinch of sugar
DIRECTIONS
- Defrost the frozen dumplings in a microwave for 30 seconds.
- While thawing, prepare for the dipping sauce by combining all the ingredients.
- Peel and cut the ginger into strips then mix it will all ingredients(vinegar, sesame oil, pepper & sugar) in a mini sauce dish.
- Wipe with tissue to dry the dumplings from the defrosted water then lightly spray/brush oil on it. (This will make your dumplings crispier on the edges.
- Place in an Air fryer under 180 degrees Celcius for 15 minutes, flipping the dumplings to the other side at the half way of its cooking time to evenly cook both sides.
- After 15 minutes, remove from the air fryer and serve it together with your prepared dipping sauce.
You may try this recipe over the weekend for your snack . You can simply buy all ingredients in most Asian supermarkets for those who lived abroad, and for those living in the Philippines, of course, my favorite online food store – the Siomaiking express delivery has all this wontons, pork gyoza, kuchai dumplings, pork dumplings and more.
