Yes! It’s Friday once again, and as promised last week,I am sharing to you another easy air fried recipe that you can do in just 3 steps!- Presenting ..the Taiwan Mantho! But before we start, let me tell you what is a Mantho and what it is made of. This is actually my favorite dessert whenever I go for a Chinese, Taiwanese or to any East Asian restaurants.
Mantho or known as steamed bun or bread are typically eaten as a staple food in most Northen parts of China where instead of rice, they grow more on wheat. It is basically made of milled wheat flour, water and leavening agents. It is usually soft and fluffy and to some fancy Chinese restaurants , instead of steaming , they deep fried it and serve it with a sweetened condensed milk. Today, it has come up in different colors shapes and flavors. From the classic white, now there is also the brown sugar and with the purple yam or ube flavor. (Source:Wikipedia)

They are often sold pre-cooked in the frozen section to most Asian supermarkets, just ready to cook either by steaming , deep frying, or just heating in the microwave oven. Here in Dubai, I normally order this from WE-MART, together with my Taiwan Cheesecake and dumplings! While in Manila, I usually order from my favorite online food store – Siomaiking Express! They have four (4) flavors that you can choose from classic white, brown sugar, wheat, and ube flavor.
Since I am in the hype of using my Air fryer, I tried to cook the mantho with it and gladly it came out very nice and guiltlessly tasty since I don’t have to use a lot of oil to deep fry it !.It turned out very crispy or crunchy on the outside but when you bite it , it is still soft in the inside. See how I did it in 3 easy steps below:
- Completely thaw your frozen mantho. You may brush it with very little oil or melted butter (to make the outside part crispy or crunchy) before you place it on the air fryer.
2. Place your manto in the air fryer leaving enough space between each bun to let the air circulate and evenly cook it. Set your timer to 10 mins at 180 degrees Celcius, turning the sides at the halfway of the cooking time.
3. After 10 minutes, it is now cooked. remove from the Air fryer , place it on the plate and drizzle it with choco syrup or traditionally serve it with sweetened condensed milk as the dipping sauce.
