Island Adventure in Maldives

Hello readers, as I mentioned in my previous post, I will be sharing to you our wonderful adventure at the World’s BEST island resort – The KURUMBA at Male MALDIVES!

The Maldives is an archipelago, located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and home to a thousands of tiny coral islands.

Since the closure of its borders last March 27, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic issues, it is now slowly reopening its borders and commencing safe tourism for international tourist beginning July 15, 2020.

The government of Maldives aims to become the “World’s First Country to offer a TRAVELER LOYALTY PROGRAM. They called it as “Maldives Border Miles”. In this program, tourists will earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay.

Additional points will also be awarded for visits to celebrate special occassion. Now moving on with my main topic, which is this particular resort in Maldives , the KURUMBA !which is for me , I considered it as a heavenly place on earth!

Why KURUMBA?

Kurumba is situated in the North Malé Atoll. It is is a 5 star luxury resort on the island of Vihamanaafushi, in the Maldives. It is only 4km near to the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and can be reached within 10 to 15 minutes ride to a luxury speedboat. Managed by Universal Resorts. Kurumba Maldives is the country’s first Maldives resort which opened last October 3, 1972 .It was designed by architect Mohamed Shafeeq.

The founders were local Maldivians, Mohamed Umar Maniku and Ahmed Naseem (Kerafa Naseem). Named after the word for coconut in the local Dhivehi language, Kurumba began with 30 rooms constructed using local material with walls made from coral stone and roofs composed of palm thatch. Currently it has 180 rooms/villas and 8 restaurants which caters international cuisines.

Things to do in the Kurumba Island

With Kurumba, you’ll forget the word “BORED”! ha ha.ha..And if you are stuck in this Island you are surely gonna have a B-L-A-S-T!!!..just like what we had!..Here are a few list that you can do to keep you rolling on an adventure!

1. Water Sports- swimming at the pool or at the beach, canoeing, water skiing, kayaking, sailing, banana boat, jet skiing etc…

2. Diving / Scuba diving/ Snorkelling Lessons

3. Excursions around the Island – fishing, boating and having picnic around the island

4. Playing games on games area such as air hockey, futsal and giant chess

5. Non-water sports such as playing tennis, beach volleyball or outdoor pool table ( billiards) or table tennis

6. Playing electronic games at the Wii games area or Playstations Pods

7. You can do your workouts at the recreation center (gym) and do some Tai Chi, Zumba or Yoga

8. Do join or enroll at the Aqua Aerobics, Painting Class

9. Watch at the movie cinema or the Marine Life Presentation and more.

Reminiscing our experience in this heavenly paradise exactly today (20th September) 6 years ago makes me want to go back in Kurumba , as soon as the pandemic ends! A perfect place to unwind and de-stress! But for now , I guess I just have to just watch our pre pandemic 2015 Kurumba Waves Adventure ..

As of now , inspite of the Covid-19 situation, Kurumba is still committed to providing a safe and hospitable environment. All the staff are still keeping their 😊 Smiles underneath their masks and also ensuring that all their staff are vaccinated.
