Places Around Sun Moon Lake That You Should Not Miss

Subsequently to my previous post on Sun Moon Lake, here’s the list of what we did in our 2 and half -days stay in this beautiful and tranquil place of Yuchi Township, Nantou County, Taiwan.

Day 1

How to get there ?

Arriving from Tayouan International Airport, we took the train going to Taipei Metro Main Station (35 -45 minutes) to board a HSR train (High Speed Rail) train going to Taichung HSR Station. Travel time is around 50-60 minutes .

Upon reaching Taichung HSR Station , transfer to Nantou Bus bound to Yuchi Township. There is no direct train access to Sun Moon Lake so you need to take either a bus or a car. Travel time could be around 45-60 minutes.

See below snap for our cute transportation cards and the one-way ticket for the HSR ride.

Our Home in Sun Moon Lake –Cottage at Sun Moon Lake

We arrived at around 3pm in Yuchi and directly we proceed to our accommodation located at Ita Thao Village . The “Cottage at Sun Moon Lake “which is hosted by Eric is a very nice and relaxing place to stay after a long hours of travel. They serve simple but very tasty breakfast too! We found this awesome cabin through Airbnb link below:

Exploring Ita Thao Village

Ita Thao is one of the tourist village in Sun Moon Lake, and is located at the southeast shore of the”sun”. According to the legend, a long time ago a group of Thao hunters chased a rare and beautiful white deer for days, going up river valleys and across mountain ridges. Finally they entered the mountains of a place called Shuishalian and settled the entire tribe in this beautiful place.

The Ita Thao Lakeside Trail is a 2.4km short trail. Starting from Ita Thao Pier, this trail leads to the Cable car Station (Sun Moon Lake Ropeway)and the Butterfly Park. Also near the pier is the Ita Thao Shopping District where in you can find a lot aboriginal souvenir products, handicrafts and authentic aboriginal flavorful food.
